Abstract

Using digital image processing, a statistical method was developed to quantitatively evaluate asphalt mixture homogeneity. The aggregate particle distribution used to evaluate asphalt mixture homogeneity was described andanalyzed respectively by the aggregate particle frequency statistic and distance statistic. The research results show that the calculated results agree well with the subjectively assessed results, which indicates that based on statistical methods asphalt mixture homogeneity can be quantitatively assessed by the values of aggregate particle frequency statistic and distance statistic. Homogeneity can be reflected by the index of homogeneity. With the increase of the nominal maximum aggregate size, the homogeneity deteriorates.
