Abstract

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Dallas District Office is currently planning for the development of a new Transportation Management Center (TMC) that will provide ITS services to the Dallas area. This new center, DalTrans, will replace the existing Traffic Management Satellite Center and will involve coordination with many stakeholders. The development of the new center provided an excellent opportunity to use the U.S. National ITS Architecture as a framework during the system planning and definition phase. This paper discusses the approach used in the application of the U.S. National ITS Architecture at a project level and the lessons learned from that activity.
