Abstract

This paper presents Toyota's historical overview and preliminary experiments with Automated Vehicle Identification systems using the Micro-wave ID Tag. The system was originally used for logistic operations such as traffic control of delivery trucks in automobile plants in Toyota. Systems were then designed for electrical road toll collection and electronic road pricing in urban areas. Travel time measurement systems were also designed. These are described briefly in this paper.
