Abstract

This paper discusses the serious vehicular collision and fire which occurred in the Burnley Tunnel, a major arterial passing under the Yarra River in central Melbourne in 2007. It compares the existing level of safety in the tunnel with the recommendations on tunnel safety which are being developed by the World Road Association (PIARC). (a).
