Abstract

With regard to the DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) as one of the core technologies for ITS, deliberation on international standardization has been in progress at ISO/TC204. Japan, while participating in the deliberation, has promoted activities for domestic standardization. This paper overviews the states of DSRC standardization in Europe, United States and Japan, and explains especially how DSRC standardization has been promoted in Japan. It introduces the composition of studying organizations and the role of each organization, and describes the positioning and functions of the ISO/TC204/WG15 Committee of Japan. It also introduces the background of adoption of Japanese standard, differences between the European (CEN), U.S. and Japanese standards, and considers the direction of international standardization in the future.
