Abstract

The analysis of the changes in social relations created by the motor car could be of importance for road safety research. The motor car phenomenon introduced changes between individuals with respect to motion of time, geographical area of relationship, anonymity offered by the vehicle, lack of community control on individual behaviour and disappearance of pressure from public opinion which was the safe-guard for the social equilibrium. This control from public opinion has to be restored in order to prevent that the individual does not accept his responsibility, in particular with respect to road accidents.
