Abstract

ARC (Auscultation pour la Réfection des Chaussées) is a knowledge-based prototype expert system in the field of pavement rehabilitation management developed in 1988 by the staff of the Quebec Ministry of Transport. ARC's knowledge base is made up of rules which relate some twenty observable pavement distress manifestations to twelve distress causes. A priori information about pavement age, traffic and environment are used to initially direct the diagnostic procedure.
