Abstract

Previous R&D projects on flexible collective transport services have identified that there is a need for an intelligent in-vehicle terminal (IVT) for these services. The INVETE project has as main objective to specify, develop and demonstrate an intelligent modular IVT, which can be used for different transport services (regular and flexible collective transport) and different transport modes (bus, taxi), and which operates in different environments (GSM (global system for mobile communication), private radio network). The INVETE project is sponsored by the IST-programme of the European Commission. This paper describes the architecture of the IVT. The multi-application IVT is based on identified needs from users, ITS environment, and different transport services and operators. The IVT has open software interfaces and is interoperable with other on-board devices.
