Abstract

In order to improve international competition position, the Randstad must be developed into a metropolis. This so-called ARGUS concept requires a transport system between the four big cities in the Randstad and the Schiphol Airport. The transport system is only possible by rail due to the high speeds required. The ARGUS system is aimed specifically at the connections between the different urban areas in the Randstad, mainly for interregional transport. The speeds required are normally only found on much longer distances. However the service frequency required is one which is usual on much shorter distances.
