Abstract

This article discusses accidents which have involved police vehicles. Some accidents have led to injuries or fatalities. A two year research project analysed data relating to police accidents. The number of fatalities each year in police accidents varied from 38 to 52. A total of 275 incidents were investigated. These incidents related to: pursuit; emergency responseor other types of traffic activity. As a result of this research project recommendations have been made for changes in police policy in relation toaccidents involving police vehicles.
