Abstract

This article describes the main objectives of ARTIS-7, and the current state of the project after its first field trial. A brief description of both the ARTIS-7 system and its pilot trial are provided. The trial measures the number of lorries, their time of travel, the total transported volume of hazardous materials (broken down by commodity) and the total kilometres travelled. The Smart Card system was used to transport information about trips and loads. The Euteltracs satellite system was used to provide vehicle location information.
