Abstract

To get an insight into the composition of the freight transport on rural highways a study has been done into the vehicle types, axle loads, total weights and yearly intensities. A driving vehicle shows a distribution of the axle load which differs from the distribution of the axle loads when the vehicle stands still and which also fluctuates. Therefore the measurements were done by driving vehicles. A mobile dynamic measurement system, a static measurement system and a traffic counting system were used. A sample test method was developed which decreases the costs and gives reliable results. It is shown that the measurements give reproducing results.
