Abstract

An investigation was made by postal questionnaire concerning the driving experience of 1,320 motorists during the year after they passed the driving test. There was a response rate of 85 per cent. Drivers in the sample had learned to drive in 1 of 3 ways, at a driving school only, with a friend or relative only or by a combination of the 2, Differences in accident rates for those 3 are suggested, although there is insufficient evidence for drawing firm conclusions.
