Abstract

This paper discusses the problems inherent in the braking of motorcycles and other powered two- wheeled vehicles and suggests ways in which antilock brake systems and other engineering measures can assist riders. Evidence is presented of the failure of many motorcyclists to brake effectively and it is suggested that advances in engineering will lead eventually to an improvement in braking behaviour.
