Abstract

There exists till now no detailed and practically relevant experimentally based information about the driver impairment under the therapy of benzodiazepines either for physicians or for patients. In the leaflets of medicaments the possible danger is referred to only in a general way. These leaflets are mainly formulated for legal purposes of the drug producer and offer little help to the patient. Therefore it is difficult for the physician to give concrete and practically relevant answer to the question of the duration of drug induced impairment to drive. There exist till now no epidemiological studies about the potential of danger in relation to special benzodiazepines, therefore only experimental studies can be used to gather first hints about these time aspects of driver impairment under the therapy of benzodiazepines.
