Abstract

This paper reviews the implementation of transit transfer centres, and assesses the potential benefits and barriers of such a system in large cities of the developing world. Drawing on the experience of San Francisco, the paper touches on a number of relevant issues, including the definition of a transit centre, the role of government in facility planning and financing, and potential impacts on surrounding land use patterns. (A) The French title of the paper is: "L'évaluation de la création des centres de correspondance de transports en commun dans les grandes villes".
