Assessment and opportunities of the future development of car sharing in Germany.

Abstract

A study commissioned by the German federal ministry of transport was conducted to examine car sharing in Germany. A survey was conducted of all German car sharing organisations (CSOs). The international development of carsharing was examined. The customers perspective of car sharing was studied. Most people had positive feelings to car sharing, as long as personal mobility behaviour was unaffected. Recommendations were made for the practical implementation and future development of car sharing in Germany. Theserelated to customer orientation of CSOs, publicity, target group alignment, corporate or business customers, modernisation of technical applications, economic ratios, cooperation between CSOs, strategic business goals, municipalities, and federal government.
