Abstract

This paper shows that a useful engineering scale of apparent brightness can be derived by various methods, including direct estimation. The effects of adaption can be allowed for. The paper also gives as a basis for discussion a suggestion that the apparent brightness magnitude should be expressed in units which are numerically equal to luminance units when the adaption luminance is 1000 footlamberts.
