Abstract

Current practices in structural strength evaluation techniques for bridge substructures below the water surface were evaluated with particular emphasis on quantifying the consequences of the deficiencies on the structural integrity of the bridge. A rating system for identifying the urgency of corrective action is presented. State-of-the-art methods used to arrest deterioration below the water surface and in the splash zone were evaluated and promising techniques identified. Several new or improved methods to arrest deterioration were also conceptualized. (Author).
