Abstract

A brief description of the current energy situation in France is given and evidence to show that most of the gasoline consumed is by local private transport (journeys to work or other local journeys by car) is presented. The reasons for this are presented and discussed. Methods to decrease car use and thereby increase energy conservation are also discussed.
