Abstract

This report summarises the findings of studies of four lorry controls for which the diversions which affected vehicles have to make are short. the controls differ with regard to the reasons for their introduction and the road situation to which they were applied. The results reinforce earlier conclusions that the cost-effectiveness of such controls depends critically on the availability of convenient, suitable, alternative routes for the prohibited vehicles.
