Abstract

A survey has been carried out to determine the incidence of associated injury in patients admitted to a head injury unit. Significant associated injury was present in 47 per cent of the cases. Attention is drawn to the diagnostic difficulties that occur in assessing the patient with head and associated injuries, particular emphasis being laid on thoracic, abdominal and spinal injuries as a source of diagnostic confusion.
