Abstract

A clear physically interpreted definition of vehicle compatibility is developed, along with an attempt to quantify at least one objective quantity as some kind of compatibility index (C.I.), and a guideline for how to determine the index value with minimum experimental effort. The speed ratio is used to calculate a C.I., and is related to the ratio of the energies dissipated in the two colliding vehicles.
