This paper investigates drivers' attentional load with both physiological and behavioural parameters when an additional task was performed while driving. Three experiments were conducted on a private circuit, on a driving simulator and in the field. Additional tasks were 3 different communication tasks to be performed simultaneously while driving, e.g. listening to the radio, conversing with a passenger and phoning with a hands free phone. The experiment required subjects to manage a dual task. Results will focus on driving performance and physiological arousal associated with the dual task. The aim is to evaluate how drivers share their attention taking into account time constraints and task contexts (speech content and driving situation). (Author/publisher)
