Abstract

A telephone interview was held in Canada in 1975 to determine the extent of acceptance of legislation which would make the wearing of seat belts compulsory. The majority of respondents would vote for the introduction of such a law. Loss of freedom of choice and fear that seat belts are dangerous were the first and second most frequently cited of four possible reasons for objecting to a seat belt law.
