The aim of this research is to know the young drivers’ attitudes towards ten main road safety measures, and their perceived effectiveness (potential, actual, reconsidered). The prevention measures were classified according to two types of motivation underlying behaviour change (extrinsic vs. intrinsic). Some actions (e.g.: sanctions) are related to an extrinsic motivation whereas others (e.g.: prevention campaigns) are associated to an intrinsic motivation. In total, 234 drivers aged between 18 and 25 years old took part in our survey research. The measures identified as most likely to improve road safety in France originate from the two types of motivation. The contribution of our results in the improvement of road safety measures is discussed. (Author/publisher)
