Abstract

Despite frequent radio reports wrong-way driving is a rare occurrence in relation to the total traffic volume. The available interim figures show that the number of dead and injured caused by wrong-way driving amount to less than 3% of the total deaths and injuries on motorways. The type of person most likely to be involved in wrong-way driving appears to lack experience of motorway conditions. Wrong-way driving can occur of any point of the motorway network.
