This paper provides a description of the research being undertaken by AusRAP. It begins with a brief discussion about motorists' attitudes towards road safety, risk and the ways in which road safety might be improved. The research discussed in this section forms a significant part of the underlying justification for the establishment of AusRAP. Following this, the two protocols under development by AusRAP risk mapping, and star-rating are described, and selected results provided.
