This scientific poster presentation discusses the Australian National Road Injury Database which contains more comprehensive information about road injury in Australia than has been available before. Potential components of the database that are under investigation include: (1) a health sector based national collection on the blood alcohol concentration of injured drivers; (2) linkage of health and transport sector information; (3) a database for monitoring trauma systems and trauma management; (4) a minimum dataset for third party insurers across the country; and (5) enhancement of the national admissions database with information on impairment using the AAAM Injury Impairment Scale (IIS).
