Abstract

This paper considers the psychological assessment of professional drivers of heavy-goods vehicles in Austria. Computer-assisted tests and test units have been developed into the multimedia test system ART 2020. There are two models. "Standard" is a multifunctional test unit allowing comprehensive assessment of traffic-related performance and personality dimensions. "Mobil" is a small portable test unit. The most important aspects of the system are test development, standardisation, user acceptance, and validation. The tests include visual perception, attention and concentration, reaction capacity, co-ordination capacity, intelligence and memory, and traffic-relevant personality dimensions. Evaluation of assessment results is based on comparison with representative test samples. The author concludes that driver assessment for professional drivers should be mandatory, and Europe-wide.
