Abstract

This article briefly presents Dutch personal mobility figures. For the 1988-1991 period, the number of cars, the total number of car kilometres travelled, and the number of car kilometres travelled in commuting traffic are given. The number of cars increased rather slowly in that period. On average, the number of car kilometres travelled decreased gradually. It appears that the increase in traffic was caused more by the growth of the number of cars than by an increased use of them. For the 1980-1991 period, the article presents the number of kilometres travelled by car drivers and occupants, and public transport. An interesting finding is that the number of public transport travelled kilometres increased rather suddenly in 1991.
