Abstract

The car is an intergral part of the social and economis life one of the three Dutch inhabitants has a car. Therefore the car is a main source of income for the government. In 1982 the tax on fuel, on cars and the extra tax for cars when sold, was 7 milliard Dutch guilders. These taxes are considered as compensations for the governmental costs to construct and to maintain a road network etc. This report analyses the different separate fiscal instruments and gives information on the situation in other countries.
