Abstract

The problems caused by information systems form a central barrier in the development of intermodal transport. In the unit transport using containers and trailers, the mode of transport changes several times during the transport process. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the available RFID-technologies for the automatic identification of transport units and to test this particularly in harbour conditions. In the project, the unit to be identified is a container in laboratory conditions and a railway waggon in the pilot. The results show that suitable technologies exist but lack of standardisation is a barrier for implementation in Europe. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
