Abstract

New technologies for the automatic counting of passengers on road and rail vehicles is compared with general indications on their respective levelsof outlay. Since weigh-in-motion systems can provide an indirect measurement of passengers on board, these are also included in this overview. The advantages and disadvantages of infrared and treadle mat sensors are outlined.
