Abstract
A speed sign which tells the driver that he is speeding was placed on the A 286 through Fernhurst, Sussex. It is demonstrated that such a sign can have a considerable effect on speeding drivers, particularly in terms of educating the motorist to approach the particular stretch of road less quickly. The sign continued to have an effect on driver behaviour for at least one month from its installation.
