Abstract

Increased motorway traffic, construction of urban toll motorways and isolated toll engineering structures, and plans to possibly implement road pricing in some countries, result in a need for modern equipment for drive through toll transactions. A transition from identification equipment to actual transaction equipment is taking place to meet the future challenges facing tolls both for urban roads and motorways. The technical solutions which should be developed and standardised within Europe are examined.
