Abstract

Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) is the term used to describe systems which enable vehicles to be uniquely identified at various locations on a network. This paper discusses the various uses of AVI and the different technologies which have been applied over the past two decades.AVI is the logical next step after automatic vehicle detection and automatic vehicle classification.
