Abstract

The author describes the principal factor limiting the capacity of any transport mode as the degree of control which can be exercised over the individual vehicles and the extent to which such control can be made automatic. Therefore, the requirements of ground transport systems and their related technical devices so far developed should be examined from the standpoint of elementary control theory in order to obtain an adequate solution for the growing problems of congestion in transport situations.
