Abstract

A recent Delft University of Technology study showed that a transport system with a small automatic city bus could be a promising development, especially as collecting transport to tram or train. In this paper, such a system is described, with aspects as the vehicles, traffic safety and obstacle detection, connection with higher transport modes, services, etcetera. An example of an automatic city bus system is outlined, for a modern residential area in the city of Delft. First analysis results show that improvements can be expected compared with the existing situation. Especially, a better service area covering and shorter trip times can be expected.
