Abstract

Significant reduction in maxillofacial injuries can be attained. In car crashes the injuries are sustained by the transfer of mechanical energy from the car to the occupants. Thus, preventing or reducing the energy transfer will reduce the severity or eliminate the injuries. The use of lap and shoulder belts would significantly reduce the number of injuries, particularly those of the face.
