Abstract

The evolution of collision injury safety in modern U.S.A. automobiles is traced. The effectiveness of several standards is described and collision examples are given where current performance standards are under study. Conclusions of detailed accident studies by medical engineering teams are presented. A Trauma Research Group, at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been involved in live accident studies, for the past seven years.
