Abstract

Initially the road safety problem and the purpose of daytime running lights (DRL) are discussed. It is suggested that DRL improve vehicle conspicuity and thereby reduce the possibility of daytime collisions between on the one hand vehicles having them and on the other hand all categories of road users. Then the various main variables influencing vehicle conspicuity are analyzed.
