Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine automobile fuel consumption under realistic traffic conditions in the general framework of policies and programmes to save energy in the transport sector. A general overview is given of factors affecting fuel economy, highlighting specific aspects in the fields of operation and maintenance of vehicles, physical features of the road system, as well as driver behaviour and traffic control.
