Abstract

This volume includes papers on developments in instrumentation and automation in cars. Topics covered include automatic transmission for commercial vehicles, telematics, multi-vehicle driver simulation systems and an evaluation of the use of a hands-free car telephone. The application of a three-dimensional human model to computer aided ergonomic design of vehicles is discussed. The ergonomics of driving aid systems is investigated and the effects of car driver characteristics on accident risk and severity are examined. Advice is given on driving methods to reducing emissions and save energy. The comfort of automotive seats is studied and developments of on-board and service diagnostics for passenger diagnostics for passenger vehicles are discussed.
