Abstract

The purpose of this literature study was to investigate what local authorities in small and medium-sized cities can do to reduce the mobility by car use in their cities. The problem that the study deals with is formulated as follows: (1) Which measures do have an influence upon the mobility by car use; (2) To what extent do these measures influence the mobility by car use; and (3) which side effects do they have? In this context, a number of measures is mentioned in the areas of: parking, slow traffic, public transport and environmental structure. The expected effects of some measures are also presented. Finally, assumptions and calculations of a number of measures are given.
