Abstract

MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG together with the PROMETHEUS partners developed the Autonomous Intelligent Cruise Control (AICC). This system controls speed and distance between two adjacent vehicles on highways. Different sensor principles proved their qualities in distance measurement between vehicles. Besides the aspect of comfort the AICC (MAN COPILOT) has a positive impact on traffic and travelling safety. The driver's workload is reduced. Additionally he will be warned if the system recognizes a dangerous situation. This seems to be a good safety system for coaches and trucks operation. (A)
