Abstract

Referring to a theoretical analysis of driver training the traffic safety literature has been reviewed with respect to driver training. A basic assumption of the report is that driver training has two main objectives: a safety and a performance objective. The report states that only a few studies have been carried out on how driver training can be developed, although a lot of studies have been performed on the safety-evaluation of driver training. It is pointed out that the main finding of those last mentioned studies, that driver training does not improve traffic safety, can be explained by conceptual shortcomings. (Author/publisher)
