Abstract

This paper has two objectives. First, data will be presented from relevant studies to identify factors which can influence air travel by disabled and elderly passengers, and demonstrating that here is a large market to betapped. Service to elderly and disabled persons should not be only a response to possible public relations needs and pending new regulations but also to serve a positive and potentially profitable market. The second objective of the paper is to attempt to stimulate government and other responsible agencies to undertake research of air travel for the disabled which will provide hard numbers, discrete categories, and clear definitions of need so that the airlines can more effectively offer relevant service to a major sub-population requiring immediate attention.
