Abstract

Road intersections are accident-prone locations for traffic. To avoid accidents in the vicinity of intersections, vehicles should avoid entering the dilemma zone. In this paper, a model formula was compiled that represents vehicle movement at a signalized intersection to gain an understanding how to ensure safety by making an earlier decision before the signal changeto yellow. This formula clearly shows that an earlier decision can resultin better safety at signalized intersections by preventing entry to the dilemma zone.
