Abstract

The B double is a type of combination road freight vehicle which is gaining increasing use in Australia. It has the potential, because of its increase in payload capacity and resultant operating cost savings, to significantly improve the efficiency of Australia's road transport. This paper identifies and reports on the development of B doubles in Australia and overseas, economic and safety issues, and possible future trends in commodity and freight uses.
